Top Places to Get Halloween Costumes

Portlanders adore Halloween. After all, we're complex, creative, and willing to make fun of ourselves. If you're looking for a guide to getting dressed up this year, start right here. From rental shops to thrift stores, we've got you covered.

Red Light Clothing Exchange – Going vintage for Halloween? Shop the packed racks at either location of the Red Light, which is among Portland’s most-loved thrift stores. Don’t miss their funky window displays!

Two locations:

  • 3590 SE Hawthorne Blvd, (503)963-8888

  • 1111 SW Stark St, (503)294-0800

Metro – Punky, goth, and all kinds of naughty. If you want it, they’ve got it at Metro. And even if you’re not sure it’s your style, try on a corset or some vinyl pants just for fun.

  • 3525 SE Hawthorne Blvd, (503)234-9667

Spartacus Leathers – Know before you go: This is primarily a sex shop, so expect to see some risque stuff. You’ll spend a little more on costumes here (leather ain’t cheap), but if it’s attention you crave, it might be worth it.

  • 300 SW 12th Ave, (503)224-2604

Goodwill – You know the drill. Goodwill has tons of cheap clothes, shoes, and accessories, and they save lots of the good stuff for Halloween time. Start your search early and visit a few different locations.

Some big Portland Goodwill stores:

  • 2215 W Burnside Street, (503)224-3084

  • 1943 SE Sixth Avenue, (503)238-6165

  • 9015 SE Powell Boulevard, (503)788-1700
Visit the Goodwill website to find the location closest to you.

Value Village – It’s an everyday thrift store, but around Halloween time, they stock tons of new costumes, accessories, make-up and the like. Kids and adults can pick up instant costumes here for super-cheap.

  • 4420 N.E. Hancock Street, (503)493-2411

  • 5050 S.E. 82nd Ave, (503)771-5472

Party Stores

Inexpensive, pre-made costumes are widely available. They may not show the most creativity, but if you want quick and easy, get a packaged costume and try to add some cool make-up or accessories from home to spruce it up.

The Lippman Company Lippman is all about fun, whether you're throwing a spooky costume party or just want to grab a costume. Warning: it's tough to leave this place without buying something.

  • 50 SE Yamhill St, (503) 239-7007

Costume Rentals

Hollywood Costumers – Call ahead, sometimes their hours vary. This is a great place to go when you want an elaborate outfit, and it's best to have an idea of what you'd like before you walk in.

  • 635 SE Hawthorne Blvd, (503)235-9215

Helen’s Pacific Costumers – Stop by and look through the costume book at Helen’s. Then have one of their staff members guide you through the giant back room. The base price for 24-hour rentals is $60.

  • 7501 NE Glisan, (503)254-2005
