Let Your Dog Run Free

Visit Mount Tabor's Off-Leash Area

By Nancy Levenson, About.com

Did you know you can bring your dog to Mount Tabor Park for an off-leash romp? Mount Tabor is a beautiful park, located in SE Portland. There are several entrances, but the one closest to the off-leash area is on SE Lincoln, just east of SE 50th Avenue.

Be responsible! When pet owners don’t abide by the leash and scoop laws, it gives dog-owners a bad name. When you’re out and about with your dog, there are a few golden rules to remember:

1) Always pick up the poop. Plastic bags are a dog-owner’s best friend. Tie a few to the leash and you’ll always have one handy. Fine for breaking the scoop law: $150 per incident.

2) Take advantage of off-leash areas, like the one at Mount Tabor. But when you’re not in the designated off-leash area, keep your dog on a leash. Fine for breaking the leash law: $150 per incident.

3) Be aware that not everyone loves your furry friend as much as you do, and that even the friendliest dog can scare people, especially children. Assume that everyone you see does NOT want to come into contact with your dog. If they want to say hello, let them approach you.
