Pix Patisserie

By Nancy Levenson, About.com

Who and Where:
Pastry chef (and perfectionist) Cheryl Wakerhauser (just call her Pix) opened her first dessert shop at SE 34th and Division Street and followed it up with another Pix in North Portland in 2005. In 2006, a third Pix opened on SE Hawthorne.

Why They’re Great:
Thanks to Pix, Portlanders have a place to savor European desserts and chocolates as they were meant to be. Each individual dessert is a masterpiece, both aesthetically and in their flavor fusions. Handmade chocolates are not-to-be-missed. There isn’t a huge selection, but the quality is outstanding. Pick up the “box o five” which includes a sampling of their best Chocolate nougatine, Espresso, Caramel Poire, Ambrosia, and Pistache.
Did You Know?:
Pix holds dessert-tasting events including a Dim Sum Extravaganza, where you choose bite-sized desserts from a card and enjoy them with Belgian beer or dessert wine. Check the Pix website for details and the schedule.
Pix Movie Night :
The North Portland Pix shows free movies on Monday nights. The flicks range from classic to obscure, and they start around 8:30 p.m. Get the schedule for Pix Movie Night.
