An Evening at Zoolights

By Nancy Levenson, About.com

A Portland Tradition:

Every evening (except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) from now until December 30, the Oregon Zoo will be lit up like a Christmas tree for their annual extravaganza, Zoolights. Bring the kids. Bring the grandparents. This is a spectacular event for the entire family.

Light it Up:

The zoo will be transformed into a winter wonderland, decorated with nearly a million lights. Illuminated monkeys swing through trees, frogs leap when you least expect it. The photo opportunities abound at Zoolights!

Nightly Entertainment:

Enjoy live performances by local musicians and dancers each night. Hot drinks and snacks will be available and you can also purchase souvenir photos. Seeing the lights on foot is great option, but we recommend taking the zoo train, which is also brightly decorated and led by a lighted sleigh.

When:

5:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; 5:00-8:30 p.m. Friday through Saturday;
 visitors will be allowed to stay until one hour after gate closes.

Where:

The Oregon Zoo. From downtown, take highway 26 (the Sunset highway) and you’ll be there in five minutes.

Zoo members at the Plus level or higher receive free admission and a discount on the train ride.
