We're not just about roses. Portland is proud of its impressive public gardens. If the weather gets your down, a visit to one of these gardens is sure to remind you that our city wouldn't be the same without the rain.
1. Lan Su Chinese Garden
Where: 239 NW Everett Street (corner of NW 3rd and Everett)
What: Open since 2000, the Lan Su Chinese Garden is one city block full of tranquil beauty. It's one of the most authentic examples of a Chinese garden outside of China.
2. Portland Japanese Garden
Where: 611 SW Kingston Avenue (inside Washington Park)
What: More than five acres of lush landscape. There are five distict gardens within the Japanese Garden: the strolling pond garden, the tea garden, the natural garden, the flat garden, and the sand & stone garden.
3. International Rose Test Garden
Where: 400 SW Kingston Ave
What: One of the most popular attractions in Portland, the International Rose Test Garden is located inside Washington Park. The impeccably kept garden features over 8,000 rose bushes and more than 600 varieties of roses.
4. Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden
Where: SE 28th Ave & Woodstock Blvd
What: Gorgeous grounds with more than 2,500 rhododendrons, azaleas, and complementary plants. Blooms start in early spring and continue through the summer.
5. Leach Botanical Garden
Where: 6704 SE 122 Avenue
What: An urban oasis with more than 2,000 species of plants. The garden preserves plants left by the Leach family, including wildflowers, native and non-native species, fir trees and shrubbery.
