Portland Rose Festival Events - 2009

The Portland Rose Festival has been a tradition for more than 100 years. There are dozens of goings-on, from parades and concerts to car races and fireworks. Here is a rundown of the festival's most popular events. Also, check out the Community Partner event calendar.

Fireworks Spectacular
When
May 22, around 9:45 p.m.

Where
Over Tom McCall Waterfront Park One of the largest fireworks displays in the Northwest.

Waterfront Village
The waterfront turns into a full-fledged carnival with thrill rides and entertainment such the Dinosaur Jurassic Journey exhibit and five family-friendly stages. Plus, shop specialty vendor booths and enjoy food from around the world. Waterfront Village

Tom McCall Waterfront Park, downtown Portland

May 22 to June 5
11 a.m. to 11 p.m. (gates open at 5 p.m. on May 22)

Admission
Kids 6 and under (free)
Adults (7 & over)-$5 (after 5 p.m. Monday to Friday; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.*, all day Sat. and Sun.)
Free weekdays until 4 p.m. Admission is for everyone on Tuesday, June 3.

Tall Ships
Two ships, the Lady Washington (seen in the original Pirates of the Caribbean) and the Hawaiian Chieftain, will be on display. These ships offer free dockside tours each day and ticketed Fireworks Cruises and Battle Sails on Saturday and Sunday. Reservations are recommended for these Sails.

June 3 to June 7

Admission
Tours are free. Cruise tickets must be purchased in advance calling (800) 200-5239, or they can be purchased on-site on the esplanade in front of the old McCall's Restaurant just south of Salmon Springs Fountain. Fireworks Cruise is $60 for adults, $40 for children. Battle Sail prices are $50 for adults, $30 for children.

Starlight Parade
Watch floats and marching bands including the Portland Rose Festival One More Time Around Again Marching Band. It’s the 2nd-largest illuminated parade in the Northwest! The parade will be broadcast live at 9 p.m. on KGW Northwest NewsChannel 8.

Where
The parade begins at NW Burnside and 9th, then travels through downtown and ends at Lincoln High School (SW 16th & Salmon). View the parade route.

When
May 30, 8:30 p.m.

Rose Festival Fleet
Ships from the United States Navy, Coast Guard, and the Canadian Navy sail in from around the world and drop anchor along Tom McCall Waterfront Park. The fleets have been visiting Portland for nearly 70 years.

Ship Tours Tours will be from 12:30 - 4:30 p.m. daily (Friday - Sunday for US Navy and Thursday - Sunday for US Coast Guard). Tours are available at a first come, first served basis.
