Portland has New Year's activities to suit a variety of tastes -- from traditional champagne-drenched affairs to athletic endeavors to great music offerings. Kick off 2013 in style and start the year with a flair.

22nd Annual Champagne Ball
Join 1,200 revelers in four themed rooms with three dance floors and 16 bars. Pizza, an appetizer buffet and a champagne toast are included. Proceeds benefit the Children's Cancer Association.

Pix / Bar Vivant's New Year's Eve Extravaganza
Like things chocolaty and bubbly? Sounds like a good way to start a year off to me. A free chocolate buffet is available with the purchase of a drink, with chocolate mousse, chocolate meringue, chocolate ice cream, chocolate truffles and even chocolate beer. There's also a six-foot flowing champagne tower and an impressive array of champagnes available by the bottle; an outdoor chestnut roast, tapas specials and a DJ.

Good Fortune, Peruvian Style, at Andina's
Count down to 2013 with a fixed-price menu at Andina's, a popular Portland restaurant focused on "Novo-Peruvian" cuisine. The Platt-Rodriguez family, which owns Andina, will share their New Year's Eve traditions designed to bring good luck to the ensuing year -- including eating 12 grapes before the stroke of midnight. Popular house dishes will be paired with wine, and three early and three late seatings are available (first seating at 5:30 p.m., last seating at 9:30 p.m.). The three-course dinner runs $65 to $75, and additional packages are available that include wine pairings. Live entertainment by the Nat Hulskamp Trio, JB Butler, The Toshi Onizuka Trio and Danny Romero runs from 6 p.m. through 1 a.m.

Bass Odyssey New Year's Eve 2013

New Year's Eve with the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience and Shook Twins
Bluegrass statesman David Grisman leads an acoustic music night. Local folkies the Shook Twins will start things off.

50 Shades of Bond

Dress up for this black tie affair, and remember to order "shaken, not stirred" from one of the five bars and 10 bartenders. Decorations will promote a James Bond theme, and chocolate fountains, chandeliers and a red carpet will add to the pomp.

New Year's Day Brunch Buffet at Salty's on the Columbia

It's unlikely you'll be in cooking mode after a late bout of celebrating on New Year's Eve.
