Although the weather has been fantastic for the past couple of days, we've had a taste of the cold that's due to return soon. Sure, Portland is justifiably famous for its array of espresso-slinging cafes, but there's also an amazing assortment of specialty tea houses in our city. If you haven't visited the the Lan Su Chinese Garden in Chinatown -- and the accompanying Tao of Tea tea house within -- you're really missing out. There are a bunch of other must-visits all over the city, so grab a friend -- or a book -- and go check them out. Here's a round-up of six of Portland's best tea venues.

Thank you for writing this! I agree that Townshend’s is absolutely deserving of being on this list! Have you checked out The Hazel Room on Hawthorne? It’s amazing! I think you should give them a try. They serve lots of Townshend’s tea, make their own blends and also have tea infused cocktails. They offer brunch and locally made goods. They do their own gourmet ice creams in house, too! Add the great ambiance, the art on the walls and friendly staff and you have a winning combination. They are also neighbors with Mag Big a locally made clothing and goods store. You should definitely make a stop in there.
The Hazel Room!! Yes, Stephanie — one of my favorite places as well. The people are great, the atmosphere laid back and inviting. A huge selection of teas and tea cocktails are wonderful. The brunch on weekends is the best, the soups, ice cream, all made in-house. It’s a nice place to warm up and get out of the rain and in the summertime, a wonderful outdoor spot to enjoy the sun. I never visit Hawthorne without stopping in.
Thanks for the comments — I’ll be adding the Hazel Room to my list, and will be checking out as many of these as possible for more in-depth reviews of each. Looking forward to discovering a cool, new-to-me tea house!
