Seven Days of Apizza Scholls

Monday June 22, 2009

If you've ever had the Apizza Scholls experience, you probably understand why people wait in line, sometimes for over an hour, to sit down there. Formerly closed on Mondays, Apizza Scholls is now open every day of the week, so you can enjoy a perfect pie any evening you like. Visit 'em at SE Hawthorne and 47th.

Want a pie to go? Their website will tell you whether they're doing any take-out orders (right now, it says only on Mondays, and you can't call it in. You have to order in person because they don't want the crust to sit in a box while you drive across town.) Actually, there are quite a few rules at Apizza, but I don't mind following them, because without the rules, the pizza wouldn't be worth waiting for.

Do you think Apizza has the best pies in town? If not, who does?

Apizza Scholls has the best pizza in Portland bar none. I’ll drive across town from Southwest on a Friday night, and sign my name on the list knowing it’ll be an hour wait. If I know this in advance, I can plan for a walk around the neighborhood and/or a drink at a nearby bar. It all works out. I’ve tried the best in NYC, New Haven, and Europe, and Apizza Scholls is as good or better than all!
